Potential Job Losses at North Lanarkshire Council
The motion
That the Parliament notes with concern reports of the potential loss of over 1,000 jobs at North Lanarkshire Council; hopes that the council and the Scottish Government can work constructively in the interest of retaining jobs and public services; believes that council employees and vital public services should be given higher priority than what it sees as the UK Government's ideologically driven austerity agenda, and further believes that the council tax is an unsustainable funding mechanism for local government and should be replaced with a fairer means of funding local authorities.
