Glasgow City Council's Support for Leading Cultural Organisations

That the Parliament recognises Glasgow City Council's recent investment in support of the Briggait Creation Centre, Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT) and Scottish Opera; considers that this will contribute to the economic, social and cultural life of the city; commends the decision to grant £1 million to help build the creation centre for the arts, which, it understands, will also support five other cultural organisations and over 600 artists, performers and dancers; commends the work of the GFT's Completion Project; understands that the £861,000 contribution from the council will allow it to continue its work in improving access to the theatre; believes that Scottish Opera will receive a £1 million loan that it will use to refurbish the Theatre Royal; understands that this will lead to improved physical access, a boost in income and an enhanced customer experience, and thanks the council for its efforts to support the arts sector and to make Glasgow a leading city of culture in Europe.
