Trade Union Bill

As an amendment to motion S4M-14766 in the name of Roseanna Cunningham (Trade Union Bill), leave out from "opposes" to end and insert "considers that trade unions are valuable institutions in society with a long history of promoting workers’ rights, improving health and safety in the workplace and representing members when they are in need of support; notes that the UK Government was elected on a manifesto commitment to ensure that strikes can only be undertaken on the basis of 'a clear, positive decision' of trade union members, that union political fund payments would only be raised by a voluntary opt-in system and that reform of a number of areas of trade union legislation would be introduced; understands that, as agreed by all parties in the Scottish Parliament in the Smith Commission process and in line with the views of numerous employer, business and workers' organisations that gave evidence to the commission, employment law is a reserved matter for the UK Parliament, and notes that the Trade Union Bill, which has been introduced to implement these manifesto commitments, is currently being considered by the UK Parliament”.
