Stoma Care Quality and Cost Effectiveness Review 2015

That the Parliament notes the publication of the report, Stoma Appliance Service in the Community: Stoma Care Quality and Cost Effectiveness Review 2015; supports the review recommendations; welcomes the finding of a high level of satisfaction with the appliance service and related care reported by patients/carers; acknowledges the input to the review from patient organisations, the Scottish Stoma Forum (SSF), NHS staff, dispensing appliance contractors, community pharmacists and manufacturers; notes with concern the reported lack of clarity on nurse numbers and that stoma care teams perceived that stoma nurse specialist numbers were insufficient; is further concerned that at national and NHS board level, the service is perceived as “lacking leadership and profile”, and looks forward to the Scottish Government engaging with the SSF Reference Group to identify a demonstrator stoma care service and to NHS boards reviewing their arrangements for the planning and assessment of stoma care services and local stoma fora, giving proper recognition of these services in their strategic plans and designating local stoma care service champions across Scotland.
