Motion · S5M-00006 · 12 May 2016
Stolen Valour
The motion
That the Parliament notes with concern the number of people who have been fraudulently claiming to have served in the armed forces and who have been found to wear military regalia and medals to which they are not entitled; condemns those who portray themselves as having served their country in armed conflicts and carried out acts of bravery, and is further concerned that the behaviour of these individuals, who it believes are known among veterans as "Walter Mittys", could have a negative impact, not only on those who have genuinely served their country, often in extremely hostile conditions, but also the many excellent charities and organisations that do so much to assist veterans.
