Michael Martin
The motion
That the Parliament expresses its deep regret and sadness at the death of the Rt Hon The Lord Martin of Springburn; sends its sincere condolences to Michael’s wife, Mary, children and grandchildren; acknowledges Michael’s record of service as a young trade union organiser, a local councillor, a devoted Member of Parliament and being elected by his peers as Speaker of the House of Commons; considers that Michael never forgot his roots and, from sheet metal worker to Parliament, always had as his main focus his local community; believes that he was a genuine and compassionate man who served his constituents with diligence and respect, and appreciates Michael’s long years of service, his work undertaken on behalf of his community, and his dedication to the people of Glasgow and beyond.
