Iconic Glasgow Music Venues Among the World's Best

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates three of Glasgow’s iconic music venues on being included in a list of the world's top club venues, which has been compiled by the trade publication, Pollstar; notes that the rankings, which are based on cumulative ticket sales for the previous three quarters, place the O2 Academy at number 52, the 300-person capacity King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut at 70, and the O2 ABC at 84; understands that only one other UK venue made the top 100; considers this to be a remarkable and well-earned achievement for Glasgow, which is a UNESCO City of Music; congratulates DF Concerts, which owns King Tut's, and other promoters across the city on what it sees as their success in continuing to attract world-class music talent; understands that this has helped bring a significant boost to the area's economy; deeply regrets the extensive damage to the O2 ABC following the Glasgow School of Art fire in June 2018, and urges decision-makers at a local and national level to work collaboratively with representatives from the music and night-time industries to ensure that Glasgow’s music economy continues to thrive.
