Rick Nickerson and the Bigton Community Shop

That the Parliament congratulates Rick Nickerson, of the Bigton Community Shop, on his nomination in the People’s Choice category of the Plunkett Foundation’s Rural Community Ownership Awards, which celebrate the work of community businesses in rural areas; recognises that the category that Rick has been shortlisted in acknowledges the efforts of an individual who has made an outstanding effort; notes that he became the chair of a new management committee in 2012 after the shop was put up for sale; understands that the judges were impressed by his ability to rally the community and save the shop, which he runs with the support of six part-time staff and a number of volunteers; acknowledges that the shop aims to be dementia- and autism-friendly and to help reduce social isolation; looks forward to the awards ceremony on 5 December 2018 in London, and hopes for continued success for Rick and all at the shop.
