The Way Ahead Employability Programme

The motion

That the Parliament notes the work of the Wheatley Foundation’s Way Ahead employability programme in Glasgow; understands that it helps into employment people over the age of 29 who have a background of homelessness, addiction or offending; believes that it has helped more than 320 people over the last year, adding over £8 million of social value to the city; notes that it offers one-on-one support to help its service users remove or manage the barriers that they can face in finding work and supports them through the journey into employment; considers that working can be a tool for recovery from addiction, by helping to boost confidence, rebuild self-esteem, and create stability and new social connections; notes the findings of an independent report that the programme’s 10 mentors had “enabled customers to achieve transformational change in their employment prospects, confidence and aspirations, and wider quality of life”, and sends its best wishes to all connected with this initiative.
