Law Society 70th Anniversary
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the Law Society of Scotland on its 70th anniversary year as the professional body for Scottish solicitors; notes that 2019 is an extra special year for the legal profession as it is 100 years since a change in the law, the Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act 1919, permitted women to become lawyers for the first time, paving the way for women to build a career as a solicitor, and welcomes that solicitors are to be honoured for their contribution to society as part of the 70th anniversary celebrations, with the society inviting nominations for honorary membership for outstanding service for the public good by a Scottish solicitor.
