Motion · S5M-15610 · 28 Jan 2019
Work Commencing on New Lochaber Newton Room
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the announcement that work is underway to establish multiple Newton Rooms in Scotland, with the first two set to open in Fort William and Thurso; understands that Newton Rooms originate from Norway, and that they are high-tech learning facilities that aim to provide STEM education to schools and employers in the most rural parts of the country; acknowledges that these new facilities are being funded with £3 million from the Inverness and Highland City Region Deal, a programme of funding backed by the UK Government and other bodies, including the Scottish Government, the University of the Highlands and Islands and NHS Highland, and recognises the positive and long-term impact that these facilities will have in developing a skilled workforce in the Highlands and Islands.
