Fair Funding For Our Kids
The motion
That the Parliament notes the reported decision by Fair Funding For Our Kids to cease campaigning on the issue of access to free childcare hours; acknowledges the significant contribution that the campaign has made to putting childcare for working parents onto the political agenda, particularly through its research reports into the range of problems experienced by parents; believes that the work undertaken by the campaign gave prominence to these issues and helped to increase understanding and policy discussion around preschool childcare, which contributed to the Scottish Government’s promise that, by 2020, the entitlement to free childcare will be 1,140 hours and funding will follow the child; notes what it understands is the campaign’s disappointment that change has not happened as quickly as it would have liked, that many problems still exist in the childcare system and that it is hoped that if, by 2020, the changes promised by the Scottish Government have not been delivered, another group of parents will pick up where Fair Funding For Our Kids has left off, and congratulates the campaigners on their numerous successes and achievements over the last four years.
