West Dunbartonshire Council for Voluntary Service
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates West Dunbartonshire Council for Voluntary Service on receiving £9,000 from the Scotch Whisky Action Fund to run a new pilot project to launch a befriending group for 30 men aged 50 to 80 to help reduce isolation and alcohol misuse while also building resilience; understands that the organisation has seen an increase in male referrals from GPs, health professionals and social work services to its over-60s one-to-one befriending service over the last three years; recognises that more men will be able to access the benefits that a group service will deliver in terms of increased resilience, involvement in community activities and reduction in isolation and loneliness, and wishes everyone involved success in this endeavour.
