Greenock Scout Receives Bravery Award at Request of Bear Grylls

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the schoolboy, Jonathan Cameron, on receiving the Gilt Cross for gallantry on the personal recommendation of the British adventurer and Chief Scout, Bear Grylls; understands that Jonathan, who attends 32nd Greenock and District, is the first member of his 104-year-old group to receive the accolade, which is in recognition of his actions that saved his mother and little sister when the cooker at their home suddenly caught fire; notes that Jonathan put into practice the fire safety skills that he learned at Scouts by phoning the emergency services and leading his mum, little sister and neighbours to safety; appreciates the positive impact that Scouts’ groups have on children by teaching them skills such as fire safety, which, in Jonathan’s family’s case, proved lifesaving; recognises that Jonathan and his family have now been invited to Windsor Castle in April 2019, where he hopes to meet Bear; applauds Jonathan for his bravery, and commends the Scouts for their work with young people in Inverclyde and across Scotland.
