The motion

That the Parliament welcomes what it sees as the improvement of paediatric services at St John’s Hospital, Livingston; understands that, on 18 March 2019, NHS Lothian reinstated inpatient services from Monday to Friday mornings to provide 24-hour services to children; appreciates that the unit will function for four nights each week and revert to a short-stay assessment service, running from 8am to 8pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and with a paediatric nurse available in the A&E department through the night at weekends; recognises that the resumption of overnight inpatient services follows NHS Lothian recruiting three trainee advanced nurse practitioners (ANPs) as part of a drive to create a robust staffing model; understands that the unit is now staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of consultants, nurses and a greater number of ANPs, and acknowledges that parents are advised not to do anything differently and to always go straight to A&E if required.
