Plaque Honouring the Crew of The Piorun
The motion
That the Parliament commends West Dunbartonshire Council on the unveiling of a plaque honouring the bravery of the crew of the Polish warship, The Piorun, in defending the town of Clydebank from the ferocious bombing raids during the Clydebank Blitz of 13-14 March 1941; understands that The Piorun had returned to the John Brown Shipyard, where she was originally built, for repairs and, over the two-day onslaught, her crew deliberately attracted and drew fire onto themselves in order to save the people of Clydebank; notes that attendees at the unveiling welcomed the presence of the Vice Consul of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland at the ceremony, which took place on the shore of the River Clyde near the Titan Crane, and recognises the debt of gratitude owed to the brave members of the Polish Navy.
