UK's First Newton Room
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the opening of the UK's first Newton Room, at the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) in Thurso; notes that the Newton Rooms are designed to spark the interests of young people in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), with the aim of encouraging study beyond school; recognises the financial commitment from the Highlands and Islands Enterprise-led partnership, working with The Highland Council, Skills Development Scotland and NHS Highland to invest £3 million from the Inverness City Region deal to create the Newton Room, and looks forward to future generations of STEM students being inspired to take up careers in these fields.
