Swandro-Orkney Archaeology Trust Receives Royal Patronage
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the Swandro-Orkney Archaeology Trust on receiving the patronage of the Duke of Rothesay; understands that the trust was set up to support an ongoing project to excavate the Knowe of Swandro on the island of Rousay, which is under acute threat from coastal erosion; notes that the site contains a Neolithic chambered cairn, Pictish buildings and Viking remains; supports the aims of the Swandro-Orkney Archaeology Trust to survey and excavate the parts of the site under immediate threat in 2019-20; welcomes the news that Prince Charles is to become patron of the trust; believes that his future involvement will bring publicity and attention to the need for urgency in excavating the Knowe of Swandro, and wishes the trust and its volunteers all the best for the upcoming excavation season.
