Plastic Free Melrose
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges the Plastic Free Melrose scheme, which is being championed by St Mary’s School teacher, Tom Rawson; understands that the scheme started at St Mary’s where Tom and the students worked to eliminate the use of single-use plastics, such as water bottles and coffee cups; notes that the scheme was expanded to Melrose, and now businesses that prove they have eliminated three kinds of single-use plastic receive a certificate and a wooden plaque, and that a recent town litter-pick collected 40kg of rubbish from the banks of the Tweed; thanks Tom, Melrose businesses and residents for their hard work in reducing the use of single-use plastic, and hopes that Plastic Free Melrose continues to gain local support.
