The motion

That the Parliament welcomes World Autism Awareness Week 2019, which takes place from 1 to 7 April; understands that the awareness week is promoted by charities, including the National Autistic Society (NAS), and aims to draw people's attention to those who live with the condition; understands that an estimated 47,000 people in Scotland and 700,000 overall in the UK have autism; notes that the week aims to educate people about the condition and make the world a friendlier place for autistic people; understands that NAS Scotland research suggests that, although 99% of people have heard of autism, only 15% of autistic people feel that the public understands it, and congratulates all who plan to take part in activities across Scotland to raise awareness and funds as part of the week, including the 80 participating in a sponsored walk around Glasgow.
