Launch of New Modern Apprenticeship in Boat Building and Repair
The motion
That the Parliament notes that a new Modern Apprenticeship (MA) in Boat Building and Repair was recently launched at City of Glasgow College; understands that Semta, the Engineering Skills Council, in cooperation with British Marine, colleges and representatives of the marine industry, has developed the new MA to encourage the recruitment and training of the next generation of boat builders in Scotland; believes that this course will help address British Marine’s concerns regarding the lack of qualified adults and young people entering the boat building and repair industry in leisure marine and the significant challenges related to the ageing profile of the workforce; appreciates how important the leisure marine sector is to Scotland’s tourism industry, and commends everyone involved in developing this new MA to ensure that the future of leisure marine in Scotland is bright.
