Concerns Over Outdoor Entertainment Tax in Glasgow
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the estimated £10 million boost that outdoor events, such as the TRNSMT festival, bring to Glasgow's economy; notes with concern however the reported recent comments by the concert promoter, Geoff Ellis, that the outdoor entertainment tax, which it believes is being proposed by Glasgow City Council, would damage the city’s ability to attract such events; understands that such a tax would increase the cost of every ticket and would add hundreds of thousands of pounds to the cost of staging an outdoor event, and calls on the local authority to reconsider what it sees as a damaging proposal that could gravely harm the cultural and tourism sectors in the city and the wider economy.
