The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the efforts of students and professors at the University of Edinburgh who are helping to save lives in three African countries after they were hit by Cyclone Idai; notes that flood waters in Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe have trapped tens of thousands of people and that the first cholera death has been reported; understands however that the university and some of its associated technology firms are providing aid in the form of technology, which is mapping the flood waters in detail using high-tech satellite imaging; recognises that this is then being used by governments, charities and NGOs to understand where help and relief needs to be directed; notes the role that the UK has played in delivering aid to the three countries, which amounts to £22 million of relief for victims; recognises that this is another example of the university providing its expertise around the world to help solve environmental and humanitarian problems, and thanks everyone involved in these relief efforts for everything that they are doing to help the people of the countries affected.
