Taiwan’s Participation in the 2019 World Health Assembly and World Health Organization Meetings

The motion

That the Parliament supports calls for Taiwan to be included in the upcoming 72nd World Health Assembly (WHA) meetings and also in technical meetings of the World Health Organization (WHO); understands that Taiwan has previously attended meetings of the WHA and notes with concern that, at present, it looks unlikely that it will be included in the meeting; considers that Taiwan has had great success in achieving universal health coverage, has successfully eradicated several deadly diseases and helped many countries by training medical professionals or improving their medical capacity; further considers that Taiwan can make a valuable contribution to safeguard the global disease prevention system; welcomes that it is willing and in a position to share with the WHO and other countries its expertise and experience in order to realise UN Sustainable Development Goal 3, and believes that Taiwan should be invited to attend the 72nd WHA meetings in May 2019 as well as all future WHO technical meetings, mechanisms and activities.
