Stornoway Port Authority's Deep-water Port Design Contract
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes Stornoway Port Authority's decision to award the design contract for phase 1 of its deep-water port plans to the consulting civil engineers, Wallace Stone; believes that the authority’s 20-year master plan, of which the deep-water port is an integral part, will bring significant economic growth to the area; understands that this is the second significant contract towards this plan to be awarded in as many months; recognises that, in partnership with Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, the Scottish Government, through its Regeneration Capital Grant Fund, has so far contributed £2.75 million to the marina project and that Highlands and Islands Enterprise has approved £3.5 million; thanks the Cabinet Secretary for Communities and Local Government for announcing the contract award during her recent visit to the islands; commends the port authority on what it sees as its positive and ambitious vision for Stornoway and the islands and its collaborative approach to making its vision a reality, and wishes it and Wallace Stone every success in their endeavours.
