The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the organisers of Incredible Distance, which was an audio-visual exhibition that was created by people from Wester Hailes as part of a project by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra (SCO) and WHALE Arts Agency, on being shortlisted in the Scottish Awards for New Music 2019 in the Community/Education Category; appreciates that the creative and collaborative arts project formed part of the SCO's three-year residency in the area, with members of the community invited to take part; appreciates that, over six weeks of sessions at WHALE Arts in collaboration with the composer, Suzanne Parry, and workshop leader, Emma Smith, participants created an original audio-visual installation that explored the sonic and visual identity of Wester Hailes; acknowledges that it captured snapshots of daily life through the collection of found sound, imagery, film and original musical composition; understands that the material was gathered using mobile phones and cameras and through a process of capturing music making workshop activities on a handheld recorder; recognises that a 12-minute film, reflecting 24 hours in the life of Wester Hailes, and four 30-second miniature sound portraits were created, and wishes all involved with it the best of luck at the awards ceremony, which takes place on 13 May 2019 in Glasgow.
