Christian Aid Week 2019, Standing Together for Dignity, Equality and Justice
The motion
That the Parliament commends the work of Christian Aid to eradicate extreme poverty and dismantle its root causes across the world; welcomes Christian Aid Week, which takes place from 12 to 18 May 2019; believes that this is Scotland’s longest-running fundraising week, mobilising communities to organise thousands of fundraising events across the country; recognises that Christian Aid works in partnership with others, of all faiths or none, who are committed to tackling the injustice of poverty; notes that the theme of this year's week-long event is maternal healthcare provision in Sierra Leone; commends its report, The New Global Debt Crisis, which calls for Sierra's Leone's debts on the loans that it received for fighting the 2014 Ebola outbreak to be written off and for urgent action to be taken to prevent new debt crises in developing countries, and encourages MSPs to attend a parliamentary breakfast on 9 May to find out more about the events organised by the charity's supporters in their regions and constituencies during Christian Aid Week.
