World Curlew Day 2019

The motion

That the Parliament recognises that World Curlew Day 2019 was celebrated on 21 April; notes that this annual event aims to raise awareness of the threat facing curlew species around the world; understands that the curlew population in Scotland has declined by 61% since 1994, mainly as a result of the loss of habitats; recognises the need for ongoing monitoring of the efficacy of conservation schemes for waders, including the curlew; commends the efforts of the Working for Waders initiative in supporting curlew conservation projects across Scotland; welcomes the contributions to curlew conservation that have been made by farmers and land managers, and calls for continued financial support for schemes that work to restore curlew numbers in Scotland.
