Mackintosh at the Willow, RICS Awards Winner
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the team at the Mackintosh at the Willow on the tea rooms' success at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Scotland Awards 2019, at which it won the Project of the Year and Building Conservation categories; understands that the project restored the original Willow Tea Rooms' building at Sauchiehall Street to Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s 1903 design, ensuring its preservation and sustainability for subsequent generations; notes that, as well as this restoration, a visitors' centre was developed, which contains exhibition, education, conference and office facilities; acknowledges what it sees as the significant local employment opportunities that have been created directly through its function as a tea room, museum, learning centre and events venue; commends the commitment of the Willow Tea Rooms Trust, and wishes all involved with the tea rooms continued success.
