Motion · S5M-17264 · 13 May 2019
Mental Health Awareness Week
The motion
That the Parliament notes that 13 to 19 May 2019 is the 19th Mental Health Awareness Week; acknowledges that it is organised by the Mental Health Foundation and its theme this year is Body Image, looking at how people think and feel about their bodies; understands that poor body image can be experienced by people of any gender at all stages of life and that this can contribute to poor mental health; notes that exposure to unrealistic body images through advertising and social media is strongly associated with the development of mental health conditions, and acknowledges the foundation’s report and recommendations to both UK and Scottish governments regarding strengthening regulation and the creation of a positive body image charter that should be developed with young people.
