Samaritans Scotland's Volunteers
The motion
That the Parliament applauds the work of the volunteers of Samaritans Scotland; understands that, in 2018, they spent a total of more than 60,000 hours, the equivalent of 2,500 days, providing emotional support to people in crisis or distress, with the charity's 19 branches contacted around 250,000 times, or once every two minutes; acknowledges that the volunteers held more than 600 community events across the country and worked with a wide range of groups and services including schools, prisons, businesses, the emergency services and health and social services; commends the contribution of these volunteers to the quality of life in Scotland, and recognises their vital role in preventing suicide and promoting emotional wellbeing.
