Standing with Scotland’s LGBT+ Community

The motion

That the Parliament condemns the comments made by the newly elected Brexit Party MEP, Ann Widdecombe, who, in a Sky News interview on 2 June 2019, reportedly suggested that science may be able to find a cure for homosexuality; believes these comments from Ann Widdecombe, who it understands has in the past publicly supported gay conversion therapy, to be out of line and not representative of the fair, inclusive, just and open society that it considers can be seen across all communities in Scotland, where people are valued as human beings and not judged on the basis of sexual orientation, gender, race or religion; values Scotland’s LGBT+ community and congratulates the Scottish Government on what it sees as its continued work to ensure that legislation and parliamentary debate time in Scotland has equality at its core, and calls on Ann Widdecombe to withdraw and publicly apologise for what it considers her distressing comments.
