Scottish Breastfeeding Awareness Week 2019
The motion
That the Parliament notes that 3 to 7 June is Scottish Breastfeeding Awareness Week 2019; welcomes the progress made in increasing breastfeeding, as reported in February 2019 in the first Scottish Maternal and Infant Nutrition Survey, which found that 43% of mothers are continuing to breastfeed up to six months after birth, compared to 32% in 2010; notes with concern that 27% of women responding had sometimes decided not to breastfeed their baby in a certain place because they thought that they would be made to feel uncomfortable; welcomes the launch of the new Breastfeeding Friendly Scotland logo and award; encourages sign up to the scheme to support women to be confident when breastfeeding in public spaces; commends the recommendations of the Becoming Breastfeeding Friendly Scotland Committee, as published on 3 June 2019; notes that NHS Lanarkshire is hosting its second Breastfeeding Summit on 4 June in East Kilbride, and celebrates the work already underway to support women with breastfeeding their babies, including the numerous Breastfeeding Welcome sites in Lanarkshire.
