The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the 2019 Arran Folk Festival, which will take place from 7 to 9 June for the 25th consecutive year; recognises that, as in previous years, the celebration of folk and traditional music will feature free open sessions and will see fiddlers, singers, guitarists, banjo players, flautists and whistle players come together and share music from the folk repertoire; notes that the Friday and Saturday nights will feature concerts at Brodick Village Hall, with many performers, including Jenn Butterworth and Laura-Beth Salter, the Maeve MacKinnon Trio, Bobby Watt, Diamh, and The Ledger; believes that the festival has played a vital role in celebrating the island’s musical and cultural heritage while simultaneously cementing Arran’s place on the international folk scene, and wishes the performers and organisers of every success at this year’s event and in all their future endeavours.
