World Oceans Day
The motion
That the Parliament celebrates World Oceans Day on 8 June 2019, which, under the banner #togetherwecan, hopes to bring people from across the planet to tackle the many issues facing the oceans, such as this year's focus on stopping ocean plastic by building on personal awareness, actions and commitments to reducing single-use plastic, as well as mobilise action on the scale necessary to bring about real change; welcomes the Scottish Government's announcement of the world's first conservation zones for the protection of marine life, such as the minke whale and basking shark, which will cover over 5,000 sq miles, and encourages the Scottish Government to continue acting as what it considers a world leader in addressing the pressing issues affecting the oceans and environment.
