Blood Stem Cell Register
The motion
That the Parliament highlights the work of the DKMS Foundation in view of what it sees as the momentous decision to approve an opt-out organ donation scheme for Scotland; understands that DKMS has registered more than 8 million potential blood stem cell donors across the world giving 69,000 second chances of life to people with blood cancer; believes that blood cancer is the fifth most common type of cancer in the UK, that someone is diagnosed with a type of blood cancer every 20 minutes, and that only 30% of blood cancer patients in need of blood stem cell donation find a donor within their family; acknowledges the need for more people to register as stem cell donors, and encourages all those who are able to do so to join the register.
