The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Choose Life, the national strategy to prevent suicides in Scotland, on the success of the Prevent Suicide - North East Scotland app, which has been used by more than 40,000 people since its launch three years ago; understands that the app supports those at risk of suicide in the north east of Scotland by providing users with access to free immediate support and information without having to engage directly with mental health services; further understands that it encourages users to develop a safety plan, which helps to identify warning signs and develop coping strategies to help them through times when they are at increased risk of suicide; believes that taking the first steps of support is the hardest and that the anonymity of the app assists this greatly; recognises the importance of such technology at times of crisis; commends the work of Choose Life in the field of suicide prevention, and hopes that the app will continue to help those struggling with suicidal thoughts for many years to come.
