Penicuik Athletic Football Club
The motion
That the Parliament notes the petition by Penicuik Athletic Youth FC to Midlothian Council to have its astroturf re-carpeted following a site inspection report, which found that the surface condition is "poor – subject to long-term wear, having reached the end of its useful life”; understands that the Penicuik Astro Pitch is used by school pupils across Penicuik and Midlothian and is hired every evening by both youth and adult local football teams, with Penicuik Athletic Youth FC alone having over 60 coaches and volunteers running 14 football teams for 350 youths, offering each player 2 to 3 hours of training during the week and a match at the weekend; considers that sports facilities such as this are a vital part of life for children, which serves to keep them healthy and to build positive social lives; urges Midlothian Council to fund the re-carpeting before it returns to use in October 2019 so that young people can continue to benefit, and understands that the local footballer, Claire Emslie, who played for Scotland at the Women’s World Cup, backs the resurfacing by the council, having practised and honed her skills there as a child.
