Aberdeen and North East Map of Suffragette Activities
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the launch of a map that highlights the activities of suffragettes and suffragists in Aberdeen and the north east; notes that it has been created by Professor Sarah Pederson of Robert Gordon University as part of the Scottish Suffragette Cities Project; recognises that it has been made available online at suffrageaberdeen.co.uk and features dozens of sites across the area that were connected to suffragette activity between 1867 and 1914, including the Castlegate in Aberdeen, at which an open-air meeting of suffragettes took place in 1914, and the Music Hall in Peterhead and Dalrymple Hall in Fraserburgh, where Emmeline Pankhurst addressed audiences in 1911; commends Sarah and her colleagues on this work, which recognises and highlights the importance of suffragette activity across the north east, and looks forward to the expansion of the Scottish Suffragette Cities Project to the rest of the country.
