The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Coastguard Rescue Teams, Coastguard Operations Centre staff and Coastguard Search and Rescue helicopter teams in the Western Isles on receiving the Department for Transport’s Rescue Shield Award, jointly with the Shetland teams; notes that the award, which is given to people involved in truly heroic rescues, was presented by Richard Parkes, the Director of HM Coastguard, at a celebration commemorating over 30 years of vital search and rescue services being provided from Stornoway; understands that in June 2018, the various coastguard teams from Stornoway worked together to save an older man who was clinging onto a cliff edge on St Kilda, having slipped and fallen some 30 hours earlier; recognises that as a result of such service and dedication lives are saved both across the Western Isles and in Shetland; praises the dedication of the teams involved, many of whom are volunteers; commends the work of HM Coastguard teams across the country, and thanks them for their service.
