Kirkwall Heritage App
The motion
That the Parliament notes that the Kirkwall Heritage App has gone live; understands that the app aims to encourage locals and visitors to explore a thousand years of history and culture in Kirkwall; notes that it will provide information about over 100 buildings and areas of interest, explaining how they have contributed to the development of the town; understands that there are five different trails on the app and that users can compare photos of landmarks today with their historical equivalent; acknowledges that the project received support from the Kirkwall Townscape Heritage Initiative, which is a £3.5 million initiative by Orkney Islands Council, as well as funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Historic Scotland; understands that months of consultation and research were carried out by the local consultant, Aquatera, and the heritage app specialists, AT Creative, to ensure that the app was accurate; believes that it will help raise awareness of Kirkwall’s history and foster a greater appreciation of the town’s heritage; commends the work of everyone involved with the design and development of the app, and wishes the project continued success.
