National Recognition for St Mary's, Greenock

The motion

That the Parliament applauds St Mary’s Primary School in Greenock on being one of just 20 of the hundreds of schools to take part to be honoured in the 2019 First Minister’s Reading Challenge; understands that it was highly commended for its School Reading Journey challenge and that the judging panel was impressed by how it sustains enthusiasm and momentum around reading for pleasure; notes that the pupil ownership in the project was also commended by the panel, with 60 children attending the initial meeting about forming a steering group; appreciates that, following a survey, a lunchtime reading club was established and that book "blurbs" are shared on different windows across the campus to encourage others to borrow books; believes that reading for leisure is something that everyone should make time for, regardless of age, and hopes that projects such as the reading challenge inspire parents and guardians to read more too.
