The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Mearns T McCaskie Butchers, which is in Wemyss Bay, on its recent success at the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards and the Scottish Craft Butcher Awards; recognises that its unsmoked dry cure back bacon was named best Scotch product at the national food and drinks awards, after seeing off competition, including from Aldi, to win this industry "Oscar"; believes that this is its most prestigious accolade to date and notes that its native breed sirloin steak was also a finalist in the same category; understands that, at the craft butcher awards, it was awarded gold for its BBQ pork belly, deconstructed spicy chicken enchiladas, spicy Italian meatballs in tomato and herb sauce and its Thai-style crispy pork belly kebabs, and silver for its honey and mustard bacon medallion kebabs and mint and rosemary lamb lollipops; believes that these recent achievements on top of the numerous awards that the firm has received in recent years are proof that Scotland’s food and drink industry is world-class and booming; appreciates that it is one of many food and drink retailers in Inverclyde who are benefitting from efforts to grow the industry locally and nationally, and wishes its staff and management all the best.
