Mackie Academy Wins Alex Johnstone Memorial Quaich
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the pupils of Mackie Academy on winning the Alex Johnstone Memorial Quaich for 2019; notes that the trophy was gifted to Mackie Academy and Mearns Academy to contest in an annual debate between the two schools; understands that the quaich was funded by a generous donation from Mearns Heritage Services and the English Speaking Union Scotland; hopes that this competition will encourage more young people across Angus and the Mearns to take up debating, and pays tribute to the lasting legacy of Alex Johnstone as a tireless advocate and committed champion for the north east, who is sorely missed by all.
