Opening of the Jim Clark Museum

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the opening on 11 July 2019 of the Jim Clark Motorsport Museum in Duns in the Scottish Borders; understands that the Jim Clark Memorial Room, which was originally opened in 1969, was expanded to become a museum following a £1.6 million makeover; notes that it has over 100 trophies and memorabilia, including racing cars, overalls and photographs from the life of the motorsport legend; thanks Scottish Borders Council, the Jim Clark Trust, Live Borders, the volunteers and others for their work in getting the museum open; understands that Jim spent his childhood in Chirnside, Berwickshire, before becoming the first driver in history to average over 100 mph in a British sports car race and, in 1963, the youngest driver ever to win the world championships; notes that he won that title again in 1965, the same year in which he won the Indy 500, and regrets Jim's untimely death, aged just 32, at the Hockenheimring track in Germany.
