Farm Safety Week
The motion
That the Parliament notes the beginning of Farm Safety Week on 15 July 2019, which is led by the Farm Safety Foundation and brings together five countries to inspire farmers to look after their physical and mental wellbeing and reduce the number of life-changing and life-ending accidents on farms; understands that farming has the poorest safety record of any occupation in the UK with over 39 being killed over the last year, 18 times higher than the average rate across all industry and including 13 deaths in Scotland, which it considers is a particular problem for rural areas such as the Scottish Borders; welcomes the role of the NFUS as part of the Scottish Farm Safety Partnership in highlighting incidents and coordinating best practice for avoiding accidents, and notes the great work of the Yellow Wellies initiative to tackle this problem.
