Duncan Scott Helps Win Gold for Team GB in South Korea

That the Parliament congratulates Duncan Scott, who grew up in Alloa, on helping win gold for Great Britain after producing the second fastest-ever freestyle split time in the anchor butterfly leg of the men’s 4x100m medley relay; notes that Duncan’s time was 46.14 seconds, which was the fastest achieved since American Jason Lezak’s 46.06 seconds at the Beijing Olympics; acknowledges that the British team of Adam Peaty, James Guy, Luke Greenbank and Duncan Scott set a European record to edge ahead of the second-placed United States and third-placed Russia at the World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju, South Korea, on 28 July 2019; notes that the astonishing race saw 22-year-old Duncan take up the race on the last leg behind Russia and almost a full second behind the United States, who were expected to win; acknowledges that Duncan moved to Strathallan School on a sport scholarship at the beginning of secondary school and trained daily during these years; notes that he went on to the University of Stirling where he was awarded Swimming Athlete of the Year in 2018, at the same time that the university’s High Performance Swim Coach, Steven Tigg, was named Swimming Coach of the Year, and commends Duncan on his focus, professionalism, integrity and sterling performances in the races and events that he has competed in.
