Foolish Optimism Commemorates World Suicide Prevention Day

The motion

That the Parliament recognises World Suicide Prevention Day; understands that, according to the World Health Organization, every 40 seconds someone takes their own life and that suicide is the leading cause of death for people aged between 15 and 29; further understands that, for every suicide that results in death, there are as many as 40 attempts; notes that Dundee has launched Foolish Optimism, a health film and national roadshow, which follows the stories of three people with mental health issues, and was brought to life by the Dundee Hilltown-based arts, education and social care charity, Front Lounge, and welcomes ongoing support and awareness raising for suicide prevention and mental health during September 2019.
