The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Stranraer Development Trust and its amazing volunteers on the organisation and running of the Stranraer Oyster Festival, which took place from 14 to 16 September 2019; notes that the festival marks the start of the oyster harvesting season and commenced with an oyster landing ceremony, with the native Loch Ryan oysters being piped ashore; understands that a specially commissioned poem written by the Scots poet, Stuart Paterson, was delivered by Alec Ross, which celebrated the oysters, the festival and Stranraer; notes that the festival included live music at the Big Oyster Bash, cooking demonstrations and classes from the renowned celebrity chef, Tony Singh, the Scottish Oyster Eating Championship and oyster shucking competition; notes that an estimated 14,000 people visited Stranraer to attend and enjoy the festival over the three days; congratulates all those involved, and wishes the festival every success for 2020 and the future.
