Scotland’s Population Needs

Lodged by John Mason Standard Motion 6 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament notes the publication of an overview of Scotland’s population needs and migration policy; understands that, due to the number of deaths in the country exceeding births, immigration is essential for both population and economic growth; believes that, that as a direct consequence of Brexit, migration to Scotland is expected to fall by between 30% and 50%; recognises what it sees as the impact that such a decline will have on public finances; observes that the current post-Brexit UK Government immigration White Paper has proposals such as a £30,000 threshold for obtaining a visa, which it believes will be hugely detrimental to Scotland's population and economic needs, and therefore supports the devolution of immigration.
